Now you may be asking—why shades? With Roman shades, you’ll be able to have greater control over light filtration. Not to mention, Roman shades are a very popular look.
What You Will Need
- White faux wood blinds
- Thick upholstery fabric
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Mod Podge
- Bowl
- Clothespins
- A foam brush
- A clothing iron
- Measuring tape
How Do You Do This?
Step 1: First things first, measure your windows to find out how long your blinds need to be.
Step 2: After you figured out the correct length, take the blind and lay it face down. Then cut the ladder strings on both sides of the blinds that keep them connected. Be very careful to not cut the thicker cord beside it. This cord moves the shade up and down.
Step 3: The wooden slats need to be placed approximately 7 inches apart. To figure out how many you will need, just divide the length of your windows by seven.
Step 4: After you have grouped together the number of slats needed for the shade, break apart the remaining ones.
Step 5: Place the slats that you are working with, on top of the fabric and keep it attached to the string.
Step 6: You will need the fabric to extend about two inches over the wooden slats and on the top and bottom of the shade. Now fold the fabric from all edges over the slats and fix them with the help of mod podge.
Step 7: Secure this folded area with a clothespin. Stop the fabric from moving when it dries.
Step 8: After it has dried, hang the new shades where the old curtains used to be.
And that’s all there is to it. Enjoy your new shades! Let us know what DIY projects you’re working on this winter season.
